5. Opportunity Qualification
Opportunity Qualification
Section titled “Opportunity Qualification”Not every lead represents a viable engagement for the WillDom ecosystem. Opportunity qualification is the structured process of evaluating whether a potential engagement aligns with the ecosystem’s capabilities, meets minimum economic thresholds, and has a realistic path to a signed agreement.
This process ensures that sales efforts are focused on high-probability opportunities and that ecosystem resources — including solution design, talent matching, and delivery capacity — are committed only to engagements that create meaningful value for both the client and the platform.
Engagement Types
Section titled “Engagement Types”The WillDom ecosystem operates through two primary engagement models, each with distinct qualification criteria.
Talent Engagements
Section titled “Talent Engagements”Talent engagements involve placing qualified technical professionals to augment a client’s existing team. In this model, the client retains delivery responsibility while WillDom provides access to vetted, senior-level talent.
Minimum qualification criteria:
- One or more full-time equivalent (FTE) assignments
- Minimum engagement duration of six (6) months
- Gross margin meets semaphore threshold (see Deal Economics & Approval)
- Minimum gross contribution of $1,500 per introduction
Solution Engagements
Section titled “Solution Engagements”Solution engagements involve the ecosystem delivering a structured transformation initiative, technology solution, or managed team under WillDom’s delivery responsibility.
Minimum qualification criteria:
- Minimum Total Contract Value (TCV) of $50,000. Discoveries are usually smaller, but opens the door to win the next solution opportunity.
- Full team composition expected (Product Owner, Tech/Team Lead, QA, and relevant specialists)
- The Product Owner role is critical in this engagement model
- Gross margin meets semaphore threshold (see Deal Economics & Approval)
The 100% Alignment Rule
Section titled “The 100% Alignment Rule”Every opportunity must demonstrate full alignment with WillDom’s core service offerings and Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) to move forward in the sales process.
If an opportunity is not 100% aligned with WillDom’s services, the branch or partner pursuing it must document a clear rationale for why it is moving forward regardless. This ensures that the ecosystem does not overextend into engagements where it cannot deliver differentiated value.
Alignment is evaluated across several dimensions:
- market
- industry sector and vertical fit
- technology stack compatibility
- engagement model match (Talent vs. Solution)
- geographic and timezone alignment
- client digital maturity and transformation readiness
The 7Ps+C Qualification Framework
Section titled “The 7Ps+C Qualification Framework”WillDom’s consultative qualification methodology uses the 7Ps+C framework (derived from the Continuous Sales Cycle methodology) to systematically evaluate each opportunity before committing resources:
- Problema (Problem) — Does the prospect have a real business challenge that WillDom’s solutions can address? Look for keywords: restructuring, digital transformation, optimization, consolidation, new business lines, strategic change.
- Personas (People) — Are the key stakeholders identified? Map the buying committee roles (see Client Roles below).
- Proyecto (Project) — Does the project actually exist, or is it still conceptual? Validate that there is a concrete initiative, not just exploratory interest.
- Presupuesto (Budget) — Are funds provisioned or obtainable? If no budget exists, assess whether there is a viable path to secure funding.
- Prioridad (Priority / Compelling Reason) — What is the client’s compelling reason to act now? Without urgency, deals stall indefinitely.
- Plazos (Timelines) — Understand three distinct timelines: purchase decision, implementation start, and go-live/production date.
- Proceso Decisorio (Decision Process) — How does the organization make purchasing decisions? Obtain the org chart and understand approval chains.
- Competencia (Competition) — Who else is competing for this engagement? Understand the competitive landscape and the client’s evaluation criteria.
Qualification Decision Gate
Section titled “Qualification Decision Gate”The 7Ps+C assessment produces one of three immediate decisions:
- Abandon — The opportunity does not meet minimum criteria; disengage and reallocate effort.
- Investigate Further — Key information is missing; continue discovery before committing resources.
- Advance — The opportunity is real and viable; proceed to the next stage of the sales process.
Risks of Poor or Late Qualification
Section titled “Risks of Poor or Late Qualification”- Pursuing opportunities that will never close, wasting team capacity
- Discovering late — after significant investment — that the deal is unviable
- Setting false expectations internally with leadership
- Missing higher-probability opportunities due to misallocated effort
Client Roles in the Buying Process
Section titled “Client Roles in the Buying Process”Understanding who plays what role in the client organization is critical for qualification and deal progression. The Continuous Sales Cycle methodology defines six key roles:
| Role | Description | Key Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Decision Maker | Has discretionary authority to commit funds and authorize the purchase order for this specific project | Can say yes |
| End User | The ultimate recipient of the product or service being purchased | Defines usability requirements |
| Technical Recommender | Technical authority for specifications; leads RFI/RFQ/RFP preparation and the evaluation matrix | Can veto, but cannot decide |
| Generic Influencer | Internal or external person who provides opinions on the product, vendor, or purchase context | Can veto, may have competitor bias |
| Sponsor | Person inside the client organization who champions the project regardless of which vendor wins | Drives the project forward |
| Coach | Person predisposed to help the sales team win the deal; provides insider information and navigational guidance | Facilitates information — but verify independently |
Important: The Coach provides information at the level of access they have within the organization. The sales team should never rely solely on the Coach and must cross-validate information through other sources.
Mapping Roles to the Org Chart
Section titled “Mapping Roles to the Org Chart”Effective qualification requires mapping each identified role to the client’s organizational chart. This reveals gaps in coverage (e.g., no access to the Decision Maker) and informs the engagement strategy.
Qualification Checklist
Section titled “Qualification Checklist”The following checklist operationalizes the 7Ps+C framework into a structured assessment for evaluating readiness to proceed.

- Technical Recommender identified — leads evaluation matrix, can veto
- Sponsor engaged — internal champion driving the project forward
- Coach identified — insider willing to provide navigational guidance (verify independently)
- Generic Influencers mapped — including potential competitor-biased voices
- End Users identified — ultimate recipients of the solution
- Potential blockers identified and addressed
- Org chart obtained with roles mapped to individuals
Qualification Outcomes
Section titled “Qualification Outcomes”Once the checklist is evaluated, the opportunity receives one of three outcomes:
Qualified — Proceed
Section titled “Qualified — Proceed”The opportunity meets all minimum criteria and aligns with the ecosystem’s ICP and capabilities. It moves forward into the sales process (Solution Design or Candidate Introduction).
Conditionally Qualified — Review
Section titled “Conditionally Qualified — Review”The opportunity meets most criteria but has gaps that require further discovery or negotiation. Specific conditions must be met before committing ecosystem resources. A follow-up timeline is established.
Disqualified — Decline or Defer
Section titled “Disqualified — Decline or Defer”The opportunity does not meet minimum criteria or alignment thresholds. The branch may choose to decline the opportunity or defer it to a future date when conditions may change. Disqualified opportunities should still be logged in the CRM for future reference and pipeline analysis.
Summary
Section titled “Summary”Opportunity qualification ensures that the WillDom ecosystem invests its commercial and delivery resources in engagements that align with its capabilities, meet minimum economic thresholds, and have a realistic path to a signed agreement. By applying the 7Ps+C framework as the single qualification methodology across both Talent and Solution engagements, combined with client role mapping and a structured checklist, the qualification process enables branches and partners to pursue high-value opportunities with discipline and confidence.
This process works in coordination with the Sales Process for pipeline progression, Deal Economics & Approval for margin evaluation, and the Client Lifecycle for long-term relationship development.
Qualification methodology incorporates principles from WillDom’s Continuous Sales Cycle (CCC) training program — Evento #803, March 2024.
